Magazine research

The last magazine I researched was the “Small Space Decorating” magazine. The overall cover of the magazine was full of color and technique. It has a big title at the top of the page, with a headline in the middle and some headlines at the bottom. The title is in big blue text, along with the headline “235” which helps emphasize that this magazine has much potential. The background photo of the cover is of a room with a couch which has a someone beach theme to it. There are headlines in yellow text which also helps it stand out. All the articles found in the magazine are based on different themes of decorations. For instance, “ cottage in the sky” and “rental royal”. The articles are spread out throughout the pages and are found on pages 42,50,56,64...etc. There are DIY project pages found on the last couple pages of the magazine, one being for a shelf on the second to last page. I found no adds in this magazine but there were famous interior designers work throughout. The photos included were all of themes of rooms. On the table of contents there were 2 photos of rooms set up differently. In the articles, there are many ways that the rooms are set up.

Magazine Project Research

The 4th magazine I have researched is Flea Market Décor. The layout of the cover is very traditional. At the top, there is a headline for number of ways to make your home festive. Below that is the title of the magazine which is bold with a solid red background it lays on. There are 3 more headlines at the bottom of the page. 1 of them being bigger and in red and green font colors. One of the articles in the magazine is all about wooden décor that can go around your home which is found of page 22 and 23. There is also an article on DIY projects which is on page 95. One advertisement in the magazine is for the security system Simplisafe on page 5. There is another advertisement for Beat Up Creations, which is about vintage plates you can buy on page 10. On page 128, there are multiple advertisements for Urban Mountain Mercantile and The Coast Vintage Market. The photos through out the magazine are all about Christmas décor. The cover of the magazine has a background photo of a dinning room with Christmas décor all over the table and shelves. The articles have photos based on what they are about. The wood article has pictures of many wooden wall and room décor used in many ways. An article about vintage Santa has many Santa photos of  accessories used in the kitchen and around  the house, also as décor. The table of contents has photos of Christmas trees in living rooms, and fireplaces with Christmas décor around it.

The 3rd magazine I have researched is a Christmas one called Cottages and Bungalows. The layout of the cover has the headline for the number of projects at the very top in green and red colored text. Under the headline at the top is the title in big font that is red, white, and green. There are headlines on the left side which are in yellow and white font color with a big headline at the bottom of the page that is also in yellow colored text with one word more slanted then the other. One of the articles included in the magazine are renovating and decorating. These appear on different pages throughout such as 32, 58,46,70, and more. Articles for shopping appear on pages 13, 24, and 28. The do it yourself articles appear on pages 12, 14, 16, 18, 20, and more. An advertisement included in the magazine is one for Simplisafe security system which is on page 11. Another advertisement is for vintage doors which is on page 23. On page 127 there are multiple adds for different companies such as OBA, Trophy Room Collection, and Marmalade Mercantile. There are many photos all over the magazine, first starting on the front cover. The cover of the magazine is a photo of a home living room all decorated for Christmas. The table of contents has photos of pictures that are the pages you can find them on. The articles have photos of  the decorations with a white background on some pages. For the DIY projects, the articles have photos of the process of making them. The shopping articles have photos of the product with the price next to or in the frame.

The second magazine I have researched is another Do It Yourself magazine. The cover of this magazine is bold with the colors it has on it. The magazine has a blue color theme on the front. The title is big with blue font. The publication headline is at the very top with a blue solid background. The background photo on the magazine is a couch with blue décor and blue side table to infer this magazine is about home décor for your home. The background photo has a main color of white with blue accessories to bring out the white. There are black colored text headlines spread throughout the cover in contrast to the white. Pink colored text is also included which adds pop to the page. The headlines also have arrows which point to the project that can be made that is on the cover, for instance an arrow points to the side table that was made. Articles included in the magazine are categorized by what type of project it is. For example, the first one is Precious Metals, using gold paint to accent items in your home. Another article included is wrapping things with duct tape or Christmas wrapping paper. Advertisements include in this magazine are ones for Premo Sculpey, a clay that hardens in the oven. Another advertisement included is one for Uberfrost spray paint. These advertisements did not appear very often. There was one at the beginning of the magazine on page 2 and one on the last page. The table of contents appeared on page 1 of the magazine and followed onto page 2. The table of contents did not go in order. It had a topic of Features which certain projects fell under, and the second page had Departments other projects fell under. Along with projects under $20 had its own spot on the right side of the page. Photos included on the table of contents pages are pictures of the projects and one of plants in box. Photos for the articles included some of them being step by step how to do them and photos of the finished project. There are also photos of the supplies needed.

Magazine Project Research

While researching different magazines about DIY and lifehack's, I have caught on to realize the cover of the magazine is brightly colored. I researched the "Do it Yourself" magazine.  The use colors used are yellow, blue, pink, and purple to make the magazine stand out. It has bold text which are brightly colored. On the cover of the magazine, it says the number of certain projects that will be in the magazine. For example, the number of painted projects or fabric projects. On the cover of the magazine, there is also the publication at the top but in smaller text so it doesn't take over the entire front or purpose. Also, included in the cover is a background photo of a place in a home. For instance, the first magazine I researched has a blue desk in a office as the background. The color of the desk helps bring more pop to the magazine. The articles included in the magazine are projects such as how to make a tufted headboard, a pallet garden organizer, and many home decor crafts. Advertisements in the magazine are the HGTV channel, car dealers, or food brand items. The advertisements appear after multiple pages of DIY ideas. The advertisements usually have their own page so they take up the whole space. There are many pages of advertisements that occur before the table of contents.For instance, there are ads on the first 12 pages of the magazine. On the table of contents, there are pictures of families and home items such as furniture. The table of contents did not appear until page 13. On other pages of the magazine, there are images of the projects to make. The distribution number of the magazine is 40,000 circulation in the UK.

Project Selection- My decision.

For my AICE Exam, I have decided to do a magazine. I chose to do a magazine for my exam because it seems fun to document different things in the world and take photos of it too. I also have an interest in being able to go to different places to write the articles in the magazine. The skills I have that will help me during this project is photography and writing. I have been in 4 photography classes with Mrs. Markley. I have learned how to take the correct photo with the correct angle. I also have a high quality DSLR camera I can use to make the photos look professional. I would categorize my magazine in the Lifestyle genre. Mostly for the younger audiences that want to learn new DIY's and Life hacks. During this exam I am working with one other person. I see my other group member and I coming up with new DIY and life hacks and we both splitting the cost on supplies needed. We both need to be able to get outside of the classroom to test new ideas. One of us needs to go over to the others house to perform these hacks to see if they work.

Project Selection Film

Making a film for my exam is interesting to me because I am currently already in a film club and I enjoy it very much. I like working with cameras and testing the different effects of the lighting and exposure. I also like to write dialog and make characters. In my film club we are writing an episode and I have to write lines for characters. I also have experience with the app Celtx. This app allows you to write a story in script format. I could use this to write the characters lines and publish it on my blog. Also, my watching Ferris Bueller, I have different ideas on how I could angle the camera in many ways along with taking notes on different shots in class. I also have experience in editing. I like to film youtube videos so I use Imovie and Final Cut Pro for my editing and it allows me to use may different effects. Making a film might be somewhat challenging for me due to timing. I work almost every day and I have 2 days off during the week. Therefor making time to film might be difficult with my schedule.

Project Selection -Magazine

Making a magazine for my exam has my attention because I love to be able to write about things that interest me. By making a magazine, it also allows me to include my passion for photography. I have been taking photography classes for 2 years now so i have experience in angles and how professional a photo should look in a magazine. While analyzing other magazines I have learned what needs to be in the magazine such as the table of contents, multiple photos that catch the audiences attention, and details about what is being displayed. As I looked at other blog post for Magazine exams, I found that I like the layout of the magazines and how the text can be moved around along with the pictures. Making a magazine for my exam would be a good fit for me since I already have many ideas on what I could write about and take photos about. The challenge with making a magazine would be not making it into a shopping catalog. I might add too much detail and it might seem like I might be trying to sell something. Another challenge would be on designing the cover. The layout has to make sense and math what is inside.
