Target Audience Research

As I researched the target audience for my magazine genre, I found that 47% of people do DIY projects because they enjoy it. The demographic of DIYER'S between the age of 24-44 take part in DIY projects. This age group consist of 2 different generations of millennials and men. People within the ages of 35-54 tend to focus more on DIY projects of household things and home improvement. 50% of the DIYERS are female, although lately it has taken a turn and men are starting to get involved. The purpose of a DIY project is to save money, and I fund that 39% of people save money when shopping for a DIY project. DIY projects are famous all over the world. My magazines theme  is Christmas so the magazine would only be sold around that time of year.

Feedback and Revisions

While presenting my Midterm Submission to the class, I had many revision suggestions from everyone. The first revision is adding page numbers. I need to include them at the bottom of the table of contents, and my 2 page article. The revisions needed to made about my article are more pictures. Perhaps more images of the materials, and step by step instructions. I could include a photo of a thumb being pressed onto the ornament. I need to also make the text for the article different, whereas the text on it currently is too original compared to other text on the page. For the table of contents, I need to add 4 more photos of different projects to show what is included in the magazine. Lastly, for the cover revisions, I need to come up with a different title since the current one is too bland. I need to make the title text and headline text more appealing instead of the standard text I used. I also need to use a different cover photo that includes more projects involved in the frame.

Use Of Conventions

My magazine challenges the conventions of DIY projects by coming up with new creative ways to save money on home décor and ways to be more creative in things you can make yourself. It represents social groups by the certain projects in it. All the projects can be done within the age group of 12 and up. My magazine also represents the social group of other DIY enthusiast such as youtubers. The photos in my magazine are at angles the DIY youtubers film.

Questions

I plan to interview craft stores around town such as micheals, and local craft stores. I will ask the workers some of these questions

1. What crafts should I include in my magazine?
2. Should I have the projects on the cover or an interior of a house? What would make the magazine more appealing?
3. Should I make these projects under $20?

Photo Shoots

The photo shoots needed for the magazine photos can all happen at home since they are all home projects. The photos I used for the article were taken at home. I set a white pillow sheet to give the photo a clear background, and used a white wall which would help make it looks neat. As I did each step of the project, I took a photo of the step.  For instance, as I dipped my thumb in the paint, I took a photo with the other. I also had my parents help me with the photos. I had my mom pour the white paint so I could take a photo of the action. To show the progress of the ornament, I held the ornament against a plain wall which showed all of the ornament.
